OWENSBORO, Ky. (Apr. 20, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside softball team began Saturday by finishing off a suspended game with an 8-4 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan College before stumbling 5-3 and 4-1 in the regularly scheduled Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader at Foster Field.
The opening game of the day resumed a suspended contest from Mar. 24, picking up at the top of the fourth with the Rangers (8-28, 5-17 GLVC) owning a 6-0 lead. UW-Parkside owned the six run advantage thanks to an
Alexis Simone RBI single in the first inning and a five run third inning, capitalizing on four Panther errors.
UW-Parkside was on the verge of a mercy rule win before the host Panthers (17-25, 11-18 GLVC) pushed across three runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend the game. KWC added an additional run in the seventh to close the scoring, giving UW-P the 8-4 win.
Two of the Rangers eight runs came off the bat of
Katie Neubauer, who finished the contest 1-for-3 with two RBIs while also scoring a run.
Kristin Kleinmeyer earned the complete game victory, allowing just one earned run while KWC's Josalyn Ress suffered the loss, yielding eight runs in three innings of work.
In the opening game of the regular doubleheader, Kentucky Wesleyan staked an early 3-0 edge, scoring a run in the second inning and two more in the top of the third. UW-Parkside got on the board in the third with a
Kirsten Luevano double scoring
Kira Cooper before a Simone base hit plated Luevano, closing the gap to just one run.
The Panthers cushioned their lead with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings, grabbing a 5-2 advantage heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Ashley Nowdomski belted a one-out double to score
Lexi Sotiros while advancing Cooper to third base, brining the potential winning run to the place. The Rangers were unable to capitalize as a fly out and a strikeout ended the contest, giving the hosts the 5-3 win.
Simone led the Rangers offensively, finishing two-for-four at the plate.
Kelynn Sporer was saddled with the loss, allowing two earned runs in five innings of work. KWC's Ashlee Winstead claimed the win, allowing one earned run in the complete game effort.
In the nightcap, Kentucky Wesleyan scored a pair of runs in the second and single runs in the sixth and seventh to hold on for the win.

Cooper, Nowdomski and Sotiros all finished with a pair of hits to lead the Rangers at the plate.
Neubauer suffered the loss in the circle, striking out one and allowing just one earned run in seven innings of work. Ress picked up the complete game win for the Panthers, striking out three.
