CHICAGO, Ill. (Apr. 16, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside softball squad was no match for host and 13th-ranked Saint Xavier University on Tuesday afternoon, suffering a pair of non-conference setbacks to the NAIA school. The Rangers fell 9-1 in the opener before losing 13-4 in game two.
A six-run fourth inning paved the way for the mercy rule win for the Cougars (33-3) in the opener. SXU opened the game with a pair of runs in the first before building a 3-0 edge with a single score in the third.
Kirsten Luevano belted a solo home run in the top of the fourth to lead off the frame to close the deficit to just two runs before the Cougars piled on six, capitalizing on four Ranger errors in the fourth.
Katie Neubauer was hit with the loss, allowing two earned runs in three innings of pitching while Megan Nonnemacher earned the complete game victory, allowing just two hits and striking out five.
The Rangers (7-26) grabbed an early lead in game two with an

Kira Cooper in the third but the Rangers were unable to contain the Cougar scoring surge that netted two, two, three and six runs over the final four innings.
UW-Parkside attempted one final lunge in the sixth, scoring three runs to pull within three before SXU tacked on six in the sixth to enact the mercy rule.
UWP opened the sixth with a solo home run from

Lani Grogan plated a pair with a single through the left side.The Rangers threatened to add more with runners on second and third with no outs but was unable to plate any more runs.
Nowdomski and Grogan led the Ranger offense, each collecting a pair of hits.
Kristin Kleinmeyer suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs in 3 2/3 innings of work.
The Rangers return to the diamond on Saturday were they will complete a suspended game against Kentucky Wesleyan College at 11 a.m. before commencing with the regularly scheduled doubleheader at 12 p.m.
