LEBANON, Ill. (Apr. 13, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside softball squad collected its second straight road split against a Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division foe, splitting a doubleheader on Saturday against McKendree University at Bearcat Field. The Rangers dropped the opener 4-2 before striking early en route to a 6-5 victory.

In the opener, the host Bearcats (9-20, 7-14 GLVC) tallied the game's first four runs, plating a pair in the second and single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

UW-Parkside (7-22, 4-13 GLVC) mounted a late rally, pushing across a pair of runs in the top of the seventh before eventually succumbing 4-2. Lani Grogan got the Rangers on the board with a single up the middle, scoring Kelynn Sporer who led off the frame with a base knock. An Ashley Nowdomski sacrifice fly scored Jessica Loy bringing up the game tying run but the Bearcats induced a flyout to end the contest.

Katie Neubauer was tagged with the loss, allowing two earned runs in the complete game effort while McK's Kelsie Stoszkus earned the win, striking out four in seven innings of work.

The table turned in game two with the Rangers tallying the opening four runs, holding on for the 6-5 win to salvage the doubleheader split.

Kirsten Luevano opened the scoring in the first inning with a two-out solo home run. The Rangers again utilized the longball in the third with Alexis Simone belting her team-leading fifth home run of the season to score three and give UWP the 4-0 lead.

McKendree got on the board with a run in the fifth before the Rangers tacked on two in the seventh for the 6-1 edge. It was Simone once again punishing the Bearcats, collecting a two-out double to score Kira Cooper and Grogan.

The Bearcats strung together one last charge in the seventh with Caitlin Stredde belting a grand slam with two outs to pull within one but the Rangers retired the next batter to earn the win.

Simone finished three-for-four at the plate with five RBIs while Luevano and Grogan each collected a pair of hits.

Kristin Kleinmeyer earned the complete game victory, striking out three while Susan Goetze absorbed the loss, yielding four runs in 2 2/3 innings of action.

The Rangers return to the diamond on Sunday, taking on Bellarmine University with first pitch slated for 12 p.m.
