RENSSELEAR, Ind. (Mar. 30, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside softball team closed out the weekend with a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader split on Saturday at Puma Field, falling 3-2 in the opener to host Saint Joseph's College before closing the day with an 8-2 victory.

The Rangers (6-17, 3-8 GLVC) struck first in game one, plating a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. A Jessica Loy single brought in Kelynn Sporer who reached base after getting hit by a pitch while Lani Grogan doubled up the UW-Parkside lead after stealing home with two outs for the 2-0 lead.

The host Pumas (13-6, 5-6 GLVC) responded in the third, belting five hits and scoring three runs including two off a Kalene Davis RBI single to grab the lead in what turned out to be the final runs of the contest.

Loy led the Rangers offensively, finishing with two of the squad's four hits in the game.

Katie Neubauer  was tagged with the loss in the circle, allowing one earned run and striking out two in six innings of work. Her counterpart Jessica Cates earned the win for SJC, tossing four innings of relief, striking out two.

UW-Parkside earned revenge in game two, piling on six runs in the seventh inning to secure the 8-2 victory and salvage a series split.

SJC struck first, plating a run in the bottom of the first inning. UWP answered in the third with a Sporer single bringing in Ashley Nowdomski to knot the score. A Grogan RBI single in the sixth gave the visitors the 2-1 edge but the Pumas quickly tied the contest with a run in the bottom of the frame.

The UW-Parkside offense came alive in the seventh, leading off the inning with three straight hits in the six run outburst. Kirsten Luevano singled in the go-ahead run, plating Colleen Cummings before Alexis Simone scored on a Puma error. Katie Neubauer belted a two RBI double while a Jessica Norton single gave the Rangers a comfortable 8-2 margin.

Luevano finished three-for-four while Nowdomski, Simone and Loy all collected a pair of hits.

Kristin Kleinmeyer earned the win, pitching a complete game and striking out two. SJC's Sarah Franklin suffered the defeat, allowing 13 hits and eight runs in 6 1/3 innings of action.
