EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Mar. 23, 2013)-- Runs were in short supply on Saturday for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside softball squad, pushing across just a pair of runs but coming away with a doubleheader split against the University of Southern Indiana. The Rangers fell 3-0 in the opener before closing out the Great Lakes Valley Conference twinbill with a 2-1 victory.

The Screaming Eagles' (13-8, 3-5 GLVC) Brooke Harmening tossed a no-hitter in the opener, striking out six in seven innings of action. Southern Indiana broke open the shutout in the bottom of the first with Harmening helping her own cause by belting an RBI single. The home side doubled its advantage in the third with a Kyla Gogel RBI single while tacking on an insurance run in the sixth for the shutout victory.

Kelynn Sporer was saddled with the loss, yielding a pair of earned runs and striking out three in the complete game effort.

The Rangers (4-12, 1-5 GLVC) never trailed in game two to salvage a series split.  UWP opened the scoring in the top of the second with Alexis Simone leading off the frame with a double to left center field. A Jessica Norton sacrifice bunt advanced Simone to third before scoring on a Lani Grogan sacrifice fly to left field.

UW-Parkside increased its buffer to two runs in the fifth with Jessica Loy leading off the frame with a double to left field. Loy circled to third on a Kirsten Luevano sac bunt before coming home on an Ashley Nowdomski base knock to right field.

Southern Indiana negated the shutout in the bottom of the fifth with Kaitlyn England leading off the inning with a double, eventually scoring off an RBI groundout from Lauren Hatfield in what turned out to be the final run of the contest.

Simone paced the Rangers offensively, tallying a pair of doubles in the nightcap.

Kristin Kleinmeyer earned the victory in the circle for the Rangers, striking out four and allowing no earned runs in the complete game effort. USI's Sarah Owens suffered the loss, allowing two runs and striking out five in five innings of work.

The Rangers return to the diamond on Sunday at noon, facing Kentucky Wesleyan College in a doubleheader in Owensboro, Ky.
