Indianapolis, Ind. (Mar. 2, 2013)-- With the regular season in the books, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team embarks on the postseason, hosting Drury University in the opening round of the 2013 Deaconess Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament on Sunday.
The fifth-seeded Rangers open the GLVC Tournament against the 12th-seeded Panthers on Sunday with tipoff inside DeSimone Gymnasium slated for 1 p.m. Live stats, video and audio will be available with Steve Kratochvil, Jim Kramer and Eric Zizich providing commentary on the audio feed available online and on WRJN 1400 AM in southeast Wisconsin. About the Rangers: UW-Parkside (18-8, 12-6 GLVC) saw its five game winning streak end on Thursday, falling 64-60 to Lewis University in a game the Rangers were never able to find a rhythm on the offensive end.
UWP led 43-42 with 9:27 left in the second half courtesy of a
Jenna Endisch three-pointer. The Flyers quickly countered and reclaimed the lead on the next possession before swelling their advantage to eight with 4:21 remaining. The Rangers mounted one final charge, pulling within two with 10 seconds left before the homestanding Flyers salted the game away with a pair of free throws.
Danielle Slivka led the Rangers with a season-high 20 points along with 10 rebounds while
Sierra West added 15 points and five assists.
A Ranger win would have given the squad a bye straight to the second round of the GLVC Tournament to be held at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind. on March 8-10. Instead the Rangers finished tied for fourth but was edged by Quincy University for the final bye based on the tie-breaker criteria. Should UWP win on Sunday the Rangers would face the Hawks at 8:30 p.m. on Friday.
Jenna Endisch is the Rangers' leading scorer, finishing the regular season slate with 15.1 points per game having drained a school single season record 80 three-pointers.
Gaby Bronson and
Sierra West both add 8.8 ppg with West leading the team in assists with 146 on the season. Slivka leads the squad on the glass with 7.2 rebounds per game while adding 8.2 ppg.
Series History: The Rangers and Panthers have met nine times with Drury holding a 6-3 edge in the all-time series that began during the 2005-06 season.
Last Meeting: UW-Parkside rallied past Drury 70-66 on Jan. 5 inisde the O'Reilly Family Center in Springfield, Mo. The Rangers trailed by as many as 19-points in a game wild contest featuring 10 lead changes and six ties.
The Panthers led by 19 with 16:59 left in the second half. UWP mounted a 26-6 run over the next eight minutes to recapture the lead. Drury closed to within a point before UWP canned free throws in the final 30 seconds to preserve the road win.
About the Panthers: Drury (14-12, 8-10 GLVC) won its final two games on the regular season and four of its last five to secure the 12th and final spot in the GLVC Tournament. The Panthers began the conference slate with a 2-7 record but have since turned it around posting a 6-3 mark down the stretch.
Drury decimated Rockhurst University 61-38 on Feb. 23 before upsetting Missouri S&T University 66-57 on Feb. 28 to close the regular season.
Katie Pritchard is the Panthers leading scorer at 14.8 ppg with Bethanie Funderburk adding 14.6 ppg and 5.5 rpg. Abby Bracker is the squad's leading rebounder, clocking 6.3 per game.
Home Sweet Home: The Rangers have been nearly unbeatable at home in recent years, winning 58 of their last 63 games (.920 winning percentage) inside DeSimone Gymnasium. UWP compiled a 14-1 home record in 2011-12, the only blemish a one-point 68-67 defeat to Kentucky Wesleyan on Dec. 1.
UWP is 10-3 at home in 2012-2013, marking the first time since the 2007-2008 season the Rangers have dropped more than two contests at home. UW-Parkside was 12-4 at home in 2007-08, 10-2 in 2008-09 while finishing 15-1 in 2009-10, 15-0 in 2010-11 and 14-1 in 2011-12.
Tournament Time: The 2013 Deaconess GLVC Tournament will be held March 7-10 at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind.

All-Tournament passes are $35, while Session Flex Passes are $25, allowing you access to any two of the first six sessions, excluding Sunday's finals. Single-session tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students with a valid ID, while children aged six and under are admitted free of charge.
The 2013 Deaconess GLVC Men's and Women's Basketball Championship Tournaments will feature 16 seeded teams, including eight men's and eight women's squads that will have earned an invitation following first-round matchups on their respective campuses. On Thursday, March 7, the men's quarterfinals will take place with four games at noon, 2:30 p.m., 6 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. CT. Friday's action will feature the four women's quarterfinal contests at the same times. Both the men's and the women's semifinals will commence on Saturday, March 9, as the men take to the court at noon and 2:30 p.m., followed by the women at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The men's GLVC Champion will be crowned on Sunday, March 10, at noon, followed by the women's final at 2:30 p.m.
