SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (Mar. 17, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside softball squad closed out Great Lakes Valley Conference interdivisional play on Sunday afternoon, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Quincy University at the Land of Lincoln Softball Complex. The Rangers fell 8-0 in five innings in the opener before stumbling 9-5 in the nightcap.
The Hawks (9-13, 4-4 GLVC) stormed out of the gate in the opener, pushing across a pair of runs in the first inning before piling on four more in the second inning with two runs crossing the plate off a double from Alanna Viken for the 6-0 lead. Quincy pushed across single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to enact the mercy rule.
Ashley Nowdomski,
Kirsten Luevano and
Jessica Loy accounted for the Rangers' (3-11, 0-4 GLVC) only hits in the contest.
QU's Wendy Macias earned the win, tossing a complete game shutout while
Kelynn Sporer absorbed the loss, yielding six runs but only one earned in two innings of work.
In game two, the Rangers outscored the Hawks 5-1 over the final five innings but were unable to overcome the early deficit as Quincy led 8-0 after two innings.
Five hits in the opening frame generated four runs for the Hawks while a walk and four hits plated four more in the top of the second for the early advantage.
Katie Neubauer broke up the shutout in the bottom of the third with a double to center field scoring
Colleen Cummings and Nowdomski. The Rangers added two more runs in the fifth, closing the gap to 8-4.

Jessica Norton brought home Nowdomski. UW-Parkside closed to within three the in the bottom of the sixth with a Cooper single bringing home Loy but the Hawks added an insurance run in the top of the seventh and held on for the 9-5 victory.
UWP pounded out eight hits in game two with Nowdomski leading the way with two hits while scoring twice.
Hayley Schneider suffered the defeat in the circle, tossing 1 1/3 innings and allowing eight runs.
Kristin Kleinmeyer tossed the final 5 2/3 innings, striking out four and allowing no earned runs. QU's Lauren Francis picked up the complete game victory, striking out eight.
The Rangers begin GLVC East Division play next Saturday at 12 p.m. with a doubleheader against the University of Southern Indiana.
