SOMERS, Wis. (Feb. 16, 2013)-- Nineteen consecutive points early in the second half turned a tight affair into a blowout as the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team rolled Bellarmine University 70-45 on Saturday afternoon in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
The visiting Knights (17-9. 7-8 GLVC) pulled to within five points with 18:27 left in the second half after mounting an 11-2 run that began with two minutes left in the first half. A
Danielle Slivka three the old fashioned way sparked a 19-0 Ranger run to put the game out of reach and secure homestanding UW-Parkside (16-7, 10-5 GLVC) its third straight win and seventh in its last eight games. Slivka converted a layup and a free throw and the Rangers tallied three three-pointers during the surge, including back-to-back bombs from
Jenna Endisch, securing a 54-30 lead with 11:09 remaining. UWP maintained at least a 20-point buffer the rest of the way, cruising to the 25-point win.
Bellarmine tallied the game's opening point before the Rangers piled on the next 15 with 10 of those points coming off the hands of Endisch. The Knights closed the gap to single digits with a steal and layup by Kylie Brady with 9:38 left in the opening half before UW-Parkside responded with 10 of the next 12 points to take a 27-10 lead while taking a 33-23 advantage into the locker room at half.
Endisch drained five three-pointer on the afternoon to lead all scorers with 19 points. Slivka added 15 points and six rebounds, hitting all seven of her attempts from the floor while
Tara Knapstein added 11 points.
Sierra West dished out six assists and collected three steals for the Rangers who held a 35-23 rebounding edge and a 40-24 advantage in points in the paint.
Darion Hutchinson paced the Knights with 16 points while Morgan Clemons added eight points and a team-best six rebounds.
The Rangers shot 50.9 percent (28-for-55_ for the game while hitting 43.8 percent (seven-for-16) from beyond the arc. Bellarmine shot 42.2 percent (19-for-45) for the game while committing 24 turnovers.
The Rangers return to the court on Thursday, closing out their regular season home slate against Saint Joseph's College. Tipoff inside DeSimone Gymnasium is slated for 5:30 p.m.
