SOMERS, Wis. (Dec. 7, 2013)-- Finishing the game on a 10-0 run, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball squad escaped with a 57-55 victory over visiting Indiana University-Northwest on Saturday afternoon inside DeSimone Gymnasium.

The Rangers (4-3) trailed by as many as 10 points in the second half and faced a 55-47 deficit with 5:57 remaining before holding the visiting RedHawks (8-4) scoreless the rest of the way en route to the two-point victory. A pair of Megan Holland free throws gave IU-Northwest the 55-47 advantage with just under six minutes to go. Tara Knapstein converted a layup and drained a three, pulling homestanding UW-Parkside within three with 4:44 left.

The deficit remained three points for the next three minutes before Maddie Johnston buried a three to tie the game with 70 seconds left. Danielle Slivka provided the go-ahead score, scooping up an errant shot and converting the layup with 21 seconds left, giving UW-P the 57-55 lead. The Ranger defense buckled down on the final possession as an IU-Northwest three fell short with one second left as the Rangers notched win number four on the season.

The Rangers enjoyed a 28-21 lead at the half but IU-Northwest tallied 20 of the first 26 points in the second half to grab the lead. The RedHawks lead swelled to 10 points after Brooke Gardner converted an old fashioned three-point play with 8:16 left in the game.

Gaby Bronson finished in double figures for the sixth time this season, leading the Rangers with 17 points. Johnston added 13 points and seven boards while Tara Knapstein added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds and five steals.

IU-Northwest's Megan Holland paced the team with a game-high 18 points and nine rebounds. Brianne Wischman added 13 points while Nicki Monahan tallied nine.

The UW-P forced 23 RedHawk turnovers and owned a 19-10 edge in points off turnovers and a 38-14 edge in points in the paint. The Rangers shot just 36.9 percent (24-for-65) from the field but attempted 24 more shots than the opposition in a game that featured six lead changes and six ties. Saturday's contest was a regular season non-conference game for the Rangers but was considered an exhibition for the NAIA RedHawks.

The Rangers return to the court on Saturday, Dec. 21, making the trek up to the Upper Peninsula to face Michigan Tech University. Tipoff in Houghton, Mich. is slated for 1 p.m.
