HOUGHTON, Mich. (Dec. 21,  2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team led by as many as nine points but was unable to hold on in a hostile environment inside SDC Gymnasium, falling 80-67 to Michigan Tech University on Saturday.

The host Huskies scored the contest's opening points but the Rangers rattled off the next 10, securing a 10-3 advantage with 16:38 left after Danielle Slivka converted a three the old fashioned way while Sarah Mlachnik canned a trey. The UW-Parkside edge mushroomed to nine points with 12:44 left off a Slivka layup. Michigan Tech responded and whittled the Ranger advantage to just a bucket at the half, as the visitors enjoyed a 37-35 lead at the break.

MTU stormed out of the gate in the second half, collecting the opening six points to seize the lead. UW-Parkside reclaimed the lead with another Mlachnik three with 15:06 left for the 47-45 lead. MTU seized the lead for good with a Kelcey Traynoff three-pointer with 6:35 remaining en route to the 13-point decision.

Slivka poured on a season-high 26 points to pace all scorers, going 10-for-17 from the floor with eight rebounds and three steals. Tara Knapstein added 15 points and seven boards while Gaby Bronson contributed 12 points and three assists.

Mackenzie Perttu led the Huskies with 23 points while Kerry Gardner and Kylie Moxley each added 15 points.

UW-Parkside dominated the paint, owning 40-20 scoring advantage down low while the Huskies fired exactly half of their shots from beyond the arc, sinking seven three-pointers on the day.

The Rangers return to action on Friday, January 3, opening up Great Lakes Valley Conference play by hosting Quincy University at 5:30 p.m. inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
