SOMERS, Wis. (Nov. 22, 2013)-- Scorching the nets in the opening half while forcing 24 turnovers on the defensive end, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team returned to the win column on Friday night inside DeSimone Gymnasium, dismantling Trinity International University 81-32.
The homestanding Rangers (3-2) led wire-to-wire, accumulating the game's first seven points and never looked back. UW-Parkside enjoyed a 48-21 advantage at the halftime intermission after shooting a blazing hot 73.1 percent (19-for-26) from the field, including hitting 55.6 percent (five-for-nine) from three-point range.
UW-Parkside's defense turned up the heat in the second half, holding the Trojans (2-5) scoreless for the first 10 minutes of the second half as Trinity International misfired on nine straight shots while committing nine turnovers. UW-P limited the Trojans to just 11 points in the second half and the 49-point victory was the squad's largest margin of victory since downing Finlandia University 100-28 on Dec. 4, 2012.
Three Rangers finished in double figures while all nine players who suited up tallied at least three points.
Maddie Johnston paced all scorers with 15 points, going seven-for-10 from the floor while dishing out four assists while
Danielle Slivka added 14 points, five assists and three steals.
Rani Singh came off the bench and tallied a career-high 11 points, sinking three three-pointers in the opening half of play.
Gaby Bronson led the squad on the glass, collecting eight rebounds while dishing out a game-high six assists.
Montanique Washington and DeAndra Wright led Trinity International, both finishing with eight points while Basha Ramsey grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
The Rangers finished the night shooting 59.6 percent (34-for-57) from the field while limiting the Trojans to shooting just 26 percent (13-for-50). UW-P owned a 26-3 edge in points off turnovers while the Ranger bench outpointed the TIU bench by a 31-8 margin.
UW-Parkside continues its homestand on Sunday, Dec. 1, squaring off against Cardinal Stritch University at 1 p.m.
