SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (Nov. 16, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball squad saw its season come to an untimely end on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-1 (27-29, 26-24, 25-21, 27-25) to Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division rival University of Illinois Springfield as the Prairie Stars denied the Rangers the final wild card spot for next weekend's GLVC Championship Tournament.
The visiting Rangers (18-13, 8-10 GLVC) stole the first set of the day 29-27, overcoming a late deficit to secure the set. The set was tightly contested until the host Prairie Stars (8-21, 4-14 GLVC) went on an 8-2 run to force a set point at 24-17. UW-P looked to have the second set wrapped up with a 24-23 lead before a service error and a pair of attack errors gave Illinois Springfield the 26-24 win to level the match. The Rangers owned a 17-14 lead in the third frame before the hosts mounted an 11-4 run to claim a 25-21 set win. Illinois Springfield never trailed in the fourth set, securing the 27-25 win to seal the match.
Kendyl Danelski powered the Rangers with 12 kills while
Jeni Heller added 11 kills and six blocks.
Lauren Hickson accrued 28 assists while
Chelsea Neave adding 22 while
Sarah Mlachnik had 18 digs on the defensive end.
Sara Baker and JoAnna Hoffman each had 11 kills for UIS while Hoffman additionally posted a match-high 37 assists. Kayla Katarzynski led the Prairie Star defensive efforts, coming up with 23 digs on the afternoon.
