SOMERS, Wis.. (Nov. 11, 2013)-- The Great Lakes Valley Conference released its weekly award winners on Monday with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside's
Jordan Mach securing the first Men's Basketball Player of the Week Award of the 2013-2014 season.
The 2011 GLVC Freshman of the Year returned to the court for the first time since suffering an injury in January 2012, leading the Rangers in scoring in both games at Cedarville University's Don Callan Classic. The Sport Management major tallied 24 points in the season opener on Friday against Central State University, helping UW-Parkside outlast the Marauders 95-83, Mach shot 50 percent from three-point range in that game while grabbing five rebounds. The next day, the junior guard poured on a career-high 26 points, helping the Rangers down the host Yellow Jackets 85-73 to finish the Don Callan Classic undefeated.
Mach finished the week averaging 25.0 points per game, 5.0 rebounds per game and 2.5 assists per game. Mach shot 53.3 percent (16-for-30) from the floor, including 41.2 percent (11-for-14) from distance while committing just three turnovers during the tournament.
Mach becomes the first Ranger to secure the honor since
Jeremy Saffold was the GLVC Player of the Week on Jan, 28, 2013.
The Rangers return to the court on Saturday, opening up their home slate against Purdue University-North Central. Action inside DeSimone Gymnasium is slated to get underway at 3 p.m.
