ROLLA, Mo. (Nov. 10, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team capped off their weekend excursion to Missouri undefeated, downing host Missouri University S&T 3-2 (23-25, 25-23, 25-20, 19-25, 15-11) on Sunday afternoon.
Neither team led by more than five points in the opening set with the host Miners securing the first set 25-23. A similar storyline unfolded in set two with the roles reversed as the Rangers secure the 25-23 win to level the match. UW-Parkside finished set three on a 10-5 run, earning the 25-20 win before Missouri S&T countered with a 25-19 victory in set four to force a decisive final set.
UW-P raced to an early 6-3 advantage but the home side stormed back to tie the set at six. The Rangers tallied seven of the next eight points, taking a 13-7 lead but the Miners wouldn't go away, pulling within two at 13-11. A kill by
Jeni Heller and a Miner attack error close the book on the match, giving UW-P the 15-11 win to secure the match. The victory was the Rangers second straight after blanking Drury University 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 26-24) on Saturday night.
Makenzie Fahnestock tallied 17 kills on the afternoon along with nine digs while
Bridget Nickel chipped in 12 kills.
Lauren Hickson led the team with 30 assists while
Chelsea Neave added 21 along with 18 digs and three service aces.
Sarah Mlachnik led the defense with 28 digs while also adding 10 assists while
Jeni Heller totaled five blocks.
S&T's Krista Haslag total 15 kills while Allie Plunk posted a match-high 41 assists. Defensively, Cydney Denning led the Miners with 24 digs.
The Rangers return to the court on Tuesday, facing Lewis University at 7 p.m.
