Volleyball Tames Bearcats, 3-1

SOMERS, Wis. (Oct. 5, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball squad continued to roll on Saturday inside DeSimone Gymnasium, downing McKendree University 3-1 (25-17, 25-13, 21-25, 27-25) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match.

The Rangers (9-6, 3-3 GLVC) never trailed in the opening set, securing a 25-17 win with Meghan Conley capping off the set with a kill. UW-Parkside tallied nine of the final 10 points in the second set to earn the 25-13 victory before stumbling 25-21 in the third set with the Bearcats (3-12, 1-5 GLVC) collecting six of the final eight points.

The fourth set was a tight battle with neither team holding a lead of more than three points. UW-P had McKendree against the ropes, leading 24-22 but the Bearcats stormed back with three straight to take a 25-24 lead. The Rangers forced a sideout with a Kendyl Danelski kill to knot the score before a Lauren Hickson kill put the Rangers up 26-25. A McKendree attack error secure the set 27-25 in favor of the home side, giving UW-P the 3-1 match victory.

Makenzie Fahnestock led the Rangers with a game-high 12 kills while Danelski added nine and a team-high seven blocks. Hickson posted a game-high 37 assists along with 12 digs while Sarah Mlachnik added a game-high 26 digs.

The Rangers return to action on Tuesday, taking on Lewis University at 7 p.m. inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
