ROMEOVILLE, Ill. (Oct. 30, 2013)-- A header goal by Kaela Hoecherl 62 seconds into overtime gave the visiting University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Lewis University on Wednesday, clinching the third seed for the Rangers and ensuring at least one more game at Wood Road Field in 2013.

The win secures the third seed for the Rangers (11-3-3, 9-3-3 GLVC) in the GLVC Championship Tournament that begins on Sunday. UW-Parkside will host sixth-seed Drury University on Sunday at noon. The Rangers and Panthers last met on Oct. 25 at Harrison Stadium in Springfield, Mo., with UW-P falling 2-0.

Hoecherl emerged as the hero 62 seconds into the 10-minute sudden death overtime period, beating the keeper with a header from five yards out off a cross from Stephanie Barsuli. The goal was Hoecherl's team-leading eighth score of the season and her fifth game-winner of 2013 while the assist was Barsuli's third of the year.

Mallory Geurts tallied another clean sheet in goal, making seven saves for her ninth shutout of the season. The Flyers' (8-7-2, 6-7-2 GLVC) Jennifer Meyer tallied five saves while yielding one goal on the evening.

Host Lewis held a 16-13 edge in shots, including a 9-5 edge in the second half.

Sunday's match against Rockhurst will be the 10th home contest of the season for the Rangers. UW-Parkside is a perfect 9-0 at home this season and owns a 32-1-4 record at Wood Road Field over the last 37 games.
