ROLLA, Mo. (Oct 27, 2013)-- An early goal from
Karley Mecko was not enough to escape S&T Soccer Field with a win, as the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer squad settled for a 1-1 double overtime draw on Sunday against Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Missouri University S&T.
The Rangers (10-3-3, 8-3-3 GLVC) struck first with
Karley Mecko scoring her second goal of the season in the seventh minute. Mecko beat the keeper after collecting her own rebounded shot after
Niekie Pellens served the ball in on a free kick.
The Miners (3-7-4, 3-7-4 GLVC) answered 10 minutes later with Kendall Fitzpatrick tallying a free kick goal from 22 yards out in the 17th minute of play. Neither squad was able to find of the back of the net the rest of the way, settling for a 1-1 draw after 110 minutes of action.
UW-P outgunned S&T 5-1 in the opening half and owned a 13-11 advantage in shots over the course of the game, including six of the 10 shots on goal.
Mallory Geurts made three saves in goal for the Rangers while her counterpart, Kaitlyn Deister, finished with five saves.
The Rangers close out the regular season on Wednesday, making the short trek to Romeoville, Ill., to face Lewis University at 5 p.m.
