AURORA, Ill. (Oct 24, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team opened the Mizuno GLVC-GLIAC Crossover Tournament with a bang, rolling University of Findlay 3-0 (25-19-25-22, 25-22) before taking down Malone University 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-15) inside the Great Lakes Center.
The Rangers (13-9) trailed 11-9 in the opening set against Findlay before claiming 14 of the next 20 points en route to the 25-19 win. The Oilers led 10-5 in set two before a
Cayla Flood service ace tied the contest at 16. Findlay claimed the next two points before UW-Parkside finished the set on a 9-4 run to win 25-22 before winning the third set by an identical 25-22 to secure the match win.
Lisa Gregerson led the Ranger attack with 12 kills while
Bridget Nickel added 11.
Lauren Hickson finished with 37 assists while
Sarah Mlachnik led the way with 14 digs.
Against Malone (9-12), the Rangers led wire-to-wire in the opening two sets, winning 25-11 and 25-17 and never trailed in the third set, earning the 25-15 decision to secure the 3-0 match win and finish Friday undefeated.
Rebecca Roembke collected 16 kills and 11 digs to pace the Rangers while Mlachnik added 11 digs. Hickson paced the Rangers, finishing with 23 assists.
The Rangers close out the Crossover Tournament on Saturday, facing Lake Superior State University at 1 p.m.
