SOMERS, Wis. (Oct 20, 2013)-- Austin Robb celebrated Senior Day with a goal as the University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 double overtime draw against Rockhurst University in a Great Lakes Valley Conference clash on Sunday afternoon at Wood Road Field.

The visiting Hawks (10-2-2, 9-1-2 GLVC) struck first with MItchell Moncada scoring in the fifth minute off a feed from Sean Verbanic. The Rangers (7-5-2, 6-5-1 GLVC) responded just two minutes before the half with Robb scoring on a free kick, his second goal of the season.

"The first 20 minutes of the game we played in slow motion and they really dictated the pace of play. We had a couple of subs and got our footing back in the game, keeping possession and making some runs," said head coach Jason Zitzke.

"Robb had a really nice free kick to the near post and that was a big moment as he's one of our seniors. We had a nice loud crowd that really carried us. I appreciated the atmosphere and support, it makes a huge difference to the student-athletes."

Neither team was able to break the deadlock after halftime, settling for a tie after 110 minutes of action.

Marcos Perez made eight saves in goal for the Rangers, logging all 110 minutes between the pipes while Rockhurst's Ryan Bass made three saves on the day. The Hawks played the final 39 minutes down a man after a red card was issued in the 71st minute of play.

"Rockhurst battled when they went down a man and unfortunately we couldn't get the ball past them."

Rockhurst finished with a 17-10 advantage in shots, with a slim 5-4 edge during the two overtime sessions.

Sunday's game was Senior Day with Jon Gourlay, Luke Klees, Usiel Ramos, Austin Robb and Christian Stoiber honored before the match for their contributions to the program.

"Our seniors had a huge day. They carried us and made their presence felt. Both Gourlay and Stoiber got banged up but gritted it out and played almost the entire game," said Zitzke.

UW-Parkside closes out the regular season on a three-game road swing, beginning Friday at Drury University.
