SOMERS, Wis. (Oct. 11, 2013)-- Makenzie Fahnestock tallied 20 kills as the University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team downed visiting Bellarmine University 3-1 (30-28, 20-25, 25-21, 25-16) on Friday night in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at DeSimone Gymnasium.

The Knights (8-6, 4-4 GLVC) secured six of the opening seven points in the first set and staked an early 11-3 advantage. Visiting Bellarmine had the Rangers (10-7, 4-4 GLVC) against the ropes with a 21-13 edge before UW-Parkside rolled off five straight points to pull within three. BU had an opportunity to end the set up 24-22 before back-to-back kills from Bridget Nickel and Lisa Gregerson knotted the score. The two squads traded jabs in the marathon opening set before a Fahnestock kill and a pair of BU attack errors ended the opener 30-28 in favor of the home side.

Bellarmine opened up a 9-3 lead in the second set before UW-P stormed back to take a 13-11 edge. The lead proved fleeting for UW-Parkside with Bellarmine scoring 12 of the next 15 points en route to a 25-20 victory.

A 7-1 start in set three set the tone for the Rangers, rolling to the 25-21 win before finishing off Bellarmine with a 25-16 victory in the fourth set.

Fahnestock led the match with a career-high 20 kills while also logging 15 digs and four of the Rangers' nine service aces. Meghan Conley and Lisa Gregerson each had nine kills with Gregerson also chipping in seven blocks. Lauren Hickson collected 45 assists while Sarah Mlachnik led the way with 32 digs.

Emily McDaniel paced BU with 14 kills.

The Rangers return to the court tomorrow afternoon, squaring off against the University of Southern Indiana at 3 p.m. inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
