SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Jan. 5, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball squad overcame a 19-point deficit in hostile territory on Saturday afternoon, downing host Drury University 70-66 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference clash inside the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
Jenna Endisch led the Rangers with 17 points in a game featuring 10 lead changes and six ties.
The 24th-ranked Rangers (7-3, 1-1 GLVC) stormed out of the gate, accounting for the contest's first nine points just over five minutes into the game. The host Panthers (6-5, 0-3 GLVC) answered with a 42-15 run over the next 14 minutes, eventually taking a 44-29 lead into the halftime break.
Drury continued to pull away, with a pair of free throws by Bethanie Funderburk giving the hosts a 19-point lead with 16:59 left in the second half. The Rangers tallied 26 of the next 32 points over the next eight minutes to reclaim the lead.
Sierra West kick started the run with a jumper while 11 straight points capped off the rally as a
Jaleesa Trussell layup with 8:47 left gave UW-Parkside its first lead since midway through the first half.
The two squads traded leads until a 7-0 run gave the Rangers a 65-60 edge with just under two minutes to go. The Panthers attempted a late surge, pulling within a point at 67-66 off a Katie Pritchard layup before Trussell and
Danielle Slivka canned free throws in the final 30 seconds of play for UWP's first win of the GLVC season.
Endisch powered UW-Parkside with 17 points, hitting four three-pointers while also grabbing five rebounds.
Jaleesa Trussell added 16 points while
Gaby Bronson and West each added nine. Slivka finished with eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Funderburk poured on a game-high 32 points for the Panthers while Pritchard added 12. Abby Bracker led Drury with six rebounds and four assists.
The Rangers return to the court on Thursday, welcoming Rockhurst University to DeSimone Gymnasium for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
