SOMERS, Wis. (Sept. 4, 2012)-- Unable to capitalize on an early advantage, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside suffered a 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-22) setback to visiting Winona State University on Tuesday evening, spoiling the Rangers home opener at DeSimone Gymnasium.

The Rangers (3-1) roared out to the opening set victory, prevailing 25-22, before dropping three straight sets to the Warriors (3-2). Winona captured game two 25-22, never trailing after the score was knotted at six apiece while mounting a 13-6 run down the stretch in game three to secure the 25-19 set win. The fourth and final set was a see-saw affair with the Warriors coming out on top 25-22 to escape with the match victory, sending the Rangers their first defeat of the season.

Bridget Nickel led the UWP offensive attack with nine kills while Jeni Heller added eight. Tricia Tirabassi dished out 11 assists while Sarah Mlachnik accrued 12 digs on the night. Katie Froehle and Kathy Lohff led the Warriors with 18 and 13 kills respectively.

UWP returns to action on Friday, taking on Stonehill College at 11 a.m. and Seton Hill University at 3 p.m. in day one of the Grand Valley State University Tournament in Allendale, Mich.
