SOMERS, Wis. (Sept. 22, 2012)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball squad closed out its homestand on a positive note on Saturday afternoon, steamrolling Kentucky Wesleyan College 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-13) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
The opening set was a nail-biter, the Rangers (9-4, 2-3 GLVC) enjoyed a sizable advantage midway through the set before the Panthers (4-11, 0-5 GLVC) closed the gap with five straight points. A kill by
Meghan Conley closed the book on the opening skirmish, giving homestanding UW-Parkside the 25-23 victory. In set two, the Rangers mounted an 8-2 run to end the set, turning a slim 17-15 advantage into a 25-17 victory. In the final set of the afternoon, UWP scored seven of the opening eight points and rattled off the final six points of the set off the serve of
Kendyl Danelski, giving the Rangers the 25-17 set win and the match victory.
Heidi Gregerson led the UW-Parkside attack with a game-high 14 kills while
Brooke Schowalter added seven.
Chelsea Neave and
Tricia Tirabassi finished with 12 and eight assists, respectively while
Sarah Mlachnik collected nine digs with Neave finished with eight.
Ashley Smith led the KWC attack with 12 kills while Morgan Watson had a game-high 19 digs.
The Rangers return to the court on Wednesday, traveling to Sauk City, Wis. for a neural site clash with Upper Iowa University at 7 p.m.
