SOMERS, Wis. (Sept. 21, 2012)-- Unable to maintain early leads in all three sets, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-22) to red-hot University of Southern Indiana on Friday evening in the Rangers' Great Lakes Valley Conference home opener at DeSimone Gymnasium.
UW-Parkside (8-4, 1-3 GLVC) grabbed a 15-10 advantage in the opening set before the Screaming Eagles (6-7, 4-0 GLVC), winners of six straight, tallied the next five points to tie the contest. USI rattled off five straight later in the set, turning a 21-19 deficit into a 24-21 edge en route to the 25-23 opening set victory.
The Rangers roared out to a 5-1 lead in set two and held a 20-19 edge before the Eagles finished the set on a 6-2 run. The third set was a familiar story with the home side capturing the early 13-6 edge. USI tied the match at 14 and closed the set by winning five of the final seven points to secure the 25-22 win and the match victory.
Kendyl Danelski led the Ranger attack with 10 kills with
Heidi Gregerson adding seven.
Tricia Tirabassi accumulated 14 assists while
Sarah Mlachnik finished with a game-high 14 digs with
Jeni Heller tallying four blocks.
Lauren DeShaney had a game-high 11 kills to lead USI while Jorae Bradbury led the visitors with a game-high 22 assists.
The Rangers return to the floor tomorrow afternoon, hosting Kentucky Wesleyan College at 3 p.m.
