SOMERS, Wis. (Aug. 30, 2012)-- 110 minutes was not enough for a winner to emerge on Thursday afternoon at Wood Road Field as the University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer team opened its 2012 campaign with a 0-0 double overtime tie against visiting Northwood University (Mich.).

49 fouls were called in the physical contest that saw six cards get issued including a red card against the Timberwolves in the 31st minute of action. UW-Parkside (0-0-1) finished the game with 11 shots, including three on frame while Northwood (0-0-1) finished with 15 shots, including a 6-3 edge during the two 10-minute overtime sessions.

"Strange things happen when a team goes down a man and usually there is extra energy and organization on the part of the shorthanded squad," said head coach Jason Zitzke. "We had possession throughout the game but couldn't pull the trigger in the attacking third of the field but overall it was a good result against a team that made the NCAA Tournament last year."

Ranger goalkeeper Nick Huftalin turned away eight shots on the afternoon to log the clean sheet while his counterpart, Johannes Sterobo tallied three saves on the day.

The Rangers return to the pitch tomorrow, continuing its homestand with a 1:15 p.m. showdown against Madonna University in the squad's final tune-up before beginning Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
