Somers, Wis. – The UW-Parkside softball team wrapped up its 2012 schedule by dropping a doubleheader to Saint Xavier University on Tuesday at the Case Softball Complex. The Cougars posted wins of 3-1 and 10-2 to earn the sweep.

The Rangers finish the season at 7-47 overall. Lauren Vitiello finished the year as the team's top hitter with a .323 batting average. She had 18 extra-base hits and drove in 25 runs. Colleen Cummings had a team-high 51 hits while Ashley Nowdomski scored a team-best 20 runs.

Kristin Kleinmeyer completed the year with a 2.91 earned run average in 158 2/3 innings pitched. She walked just 27 batters all season.

Below are recaps of Tuesday's games against Saint Xavier.

Game One (Box Score)
The Cougars, nationally-ranked in the NAIA Division I Poll, jumped out in front with a pair of first inning runs. They added another in the third to build a 3-0 lead.

Parkside broke through in the fifth inning to get within two. Cecie Portillo walked to start the inning and moved to second on a ground out by Nowdomski. Cummings continued her hot stretch with a double to the gap in left center to score Portillo to make it 3-1.

The Rangers got a leadoff hit from Bridget Walters in the sixth but were unable to advance her. Cougar starter Megan Nonnemacher retired Parkside 1-2-3 in the seventh to preserve the victory.

Kelynn Sporer was solid in the circle for the Rangers striking out eight in her seven innings. She allowed two earned runs and walked just one.

Walters led the offense going 2-for-3. Cummings and Natalie Shank had the other hits as the Rangers left seven runners on base.

Game Two (Box Score)
Saint Xavier struck for a run in the first but the Ranger defense prevented more damage. Ashley Hunter lined a double to left but Ashley Nowdomski got the ball in quickly to Diana Gordon who fired to Brittany Skarda to nail the runner at the plate.

The Rangers responded quickly scoring twice in the bottom half on just one hit. Nowdomski doubled to start the inning and moved up on a sac bunt by Cummings. Lauren Vitiello then walked to put two on with one away. After an out, the Cougars committed two errors to put Parkside in front. A dropped pop up in the infield and a misplayed grounder allowed the Rangers to move in front, 2-1.

Saint Xavier came back in the second with eight runs to reassume control, 9-2. The Rangers committed four errors in the inning leading to six of the runs being unearned. They added another run in the third on an RBI-double to make it 10-2.

Parkside got a hit in each of the next two innings from Cummings and Kleinmeyer but were unable to move them around.

The Rangers were limited to three hits in the nightcap and left four on base.
