Rangers Can't Slow Flyer Offense

John Brennan had three hits in the opener on Wednesday
Romeoville, Ill. – The Lewis University scored in all 13 innings en route to a doubleheader sweep of the UW-Parkside baseball team on Wednesday afternoon. The Rangers were unable to slow the Flyer offense as they pounded out 24 hits over the two contests in winning 14-4 and 10-2.

John Brennan and Chris Glynn each had three hits in the doubleheader to lead the Rangers who are in the midst of a ten-game stretch of road games.

Parkside will head to Owensboro, Ky., this weekend for a pair of doubleheaders against Kentucky Wesleyan College. First pitch both days will be at 12:00 p.m.

Game One (Box Score)
After the Rangers stranded two runners in the top of the first, Lewis came back to put up a crooked number in the bottom of the inning. They scored five times on three hits, an error, and a hit batter.

Parkside got a run in the second off the bat of Glynn. He homered to right to lead off the frame to make it 5-1 in favor of the Flyers.

Unfortunately the Flyers came back to score in each of the next three innings. Five more runs in all made the score 10-1 heading to the fifth.

The Rangers got things going again the fifth with a rally from the top of the order. Brennan singled and stole second to initiate the threat. Walks to Corey Stonelake and Tyler Gieseking followed to load the bases.

After a strikeout, Mike Anderson ripped a base hit up the middle. That brought in two runs and made the score 10-3.

Lewis continued to keep the pressure on scoring a run in both the fifth and sixth to open up a 12-3 lead.

Gieseking and Glynn helped Parkside get another run in the seventh. Giesking started the inning with a double and was lifted for a pinch runner. Two outs later Glynn came through with a double of his own to score Taylor Nehls.

But Lewis finished things off with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Brennan went 3-for-4 with a run scored in the game. Glynn finished the opener 2-for-4 with a couple of RBI. Parkside left nine runners on base in the game.

Game Two (Box Score)
The Rangers set out for the split with a first inning run. Stonelake and Glynn both singled with one away to place runners at the corners. Anderson cashed in the first run with a sacrifice fly to give Parkside its first lead of the day.

But once again the Flyers were relentless offensively. They scored three first inning runs on a three-run home run before adding single tallies their next three times up. That built a 6-1 lead heading to the fifth.

The Rangers tried to rally as Eric Abel doubled to lead-off. Three batters later a groundout by Brennan knocked in Abel to cut the deficit to four.

Lewis scored three in the bottom of the inning and held the Rangers scoreless the rest of the way. One more in the sixth created the final margin.

Stonelake went 2-for-3 in the game with a run scored.
