Somers, Wis. – The UW-Parkside softball team struggled to get any offense going against the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds Saturday afternoon. The Greyhounds swept the Rangers by the scores of 4-0 and 2-0.
The Rangers return to action tomorrow for a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader against Saint Joseph's College. Sunday's doubleheader is scheduled for a noon start.
Below are recaps from Saturday's doubleheader against Indianapolis.
Game One (
Box Score)
The Greyhounds broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third inning. With runners on the corners and two outs, Briana Clark reached on a Rangers error that scored Jennifer DeMotte from third base and put the Rangers down 1-0.
Indianapolis extended their lead in the top of the fourth. With a runner on second Casey Williamson singled up the middle scoring the second run of the game and taking a 2-0 lead. After the Greyhounds pulled off a successful double steal, DeMotte grounded out to second but that was good enough to get one run across and take a 3-0 lead.
The Rangers bats never got going as DeMotte and Audrey Ernst combined to only allow UW-Parkside to collect two hits in the game. The Greyhounds tacked on one more on the board and won game one 4-0.
Game Two (
Box Score)
Kristin Kleinmeyer and DeMotte were locked into a pitcher's duel until the fifth inning when the Greyhounds broke the scoreless tie. With one out Alexa Alfaro hit a home run to left center to put Indianapolis up 1-0. The Greyounds added one more run in the inning and after four and a half innings the Rangers trailed 2-0.
That would be enough for DeMotte has she had the Rangers number. She only allowed two Rangers to reach base for the game on a walk and an error as she no-hit the Rangers in game two.
Indianapolis came away with a 2-0 victory in the second game.
