OWENSBORO, Ky. (Nov. 9, 2012)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team punched its ticket to the 2012 Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament on Friday evening, downing host Kentucky Wesleyan College 3-1 (25-20, 27-29, 25-18, 25-20) while Drury University swept Quincy University, 3-0, securing the eighth and final tournament position for the Rangers.
The Rangers (20-9, 9-8 GLVC) edged the host Panthers (10-22, 3-14 GLVC) 25-20 in the opening set before stumbling 29-27 in a marathon second set. UWP closed out the match with 25-18 and 25-20 set victories, earning the second wild card spot for the 2012 GLVC Tournament which begins next Friday in Indianapolis, Ind.
Bridget Nickel paced the Ranger attack with 24 kills while
Chelsea Neave contributed 28 assists.
Sarah Mlachnik led the defensive efforts for UWP, collecting 25 digs.
The Rangers close out the regular season tomorrow, taking on the University of Southern Indiana at 3 p.m. (Eastern Time).
