SOMERS, Wis. (Nov. 24, 2012)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball squad suffered a rare home loss on Saturday inside DeSimone Gymnasium as the Rangers were unable to overcome a sluggish start, falling 66-53, to Michigan Tech University.
The visiting Huskies (2-1) never trailed in the contest after accounting for the opening seven points of the game. The Rangers battled back, utilizing a 5-0 run to pull within two before Michigan Tech tallied the next six points to build an eight point edge with just under 10 minutes left in the opening frame.
Tara Knapstein converted a three the old fashioned way, draining a jumper and sinking a free throw to close the gap to two points at 16-14 before back-to-back-to-back threes by Sam Hoyt gave the Huskies an 11-point cushion. MTU's lead grew to as many as 15-points in the opening 20 minutes, enjoying a 33-20 lead at the break.
UW-Parkside cut the lead to 10 points on three occasions in the second half but was unable to come any closer in the 13-point defeat, just the Rangers third loss in their last 52 games inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
