UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. (Nov. 17, 2012)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team emerged from James E. O'Neill Arena with a 70-64 overtime victory over host Saginaw Valley State University on Saturday afternoon in a wild non-conference tilt featuring six ties and 12 lead changes.
The score was deadlocked at 58 after 40 minutes of ball after both squads went scoreless the final 1:49 of play. Saginaw Valley State (1-2) sunk a free throw for the first point of overtime and held a slim 61-60 advantage two minutes into the extra session before the visiting Rangers (3-0) took control, mounting an 8-0 run to pull away for the team's third victory in as many games.
Danielle Slivka accounted for six of the Rangers' eight points during the spurt, beginning the rally with a pair of free throws to reclaim the lead before converting a pair of layups. The Cardinals cut the lead to just four with 70 seconds left off a Katelyn Carriere three but UWP sunk a pair of free throws down the stretch to hold on for the six-point win.
UW-Parkside led nearly the entire first half, holding a double-digit lead with 12:35 remaining off a
Jenna Endisch jumper, going into the halftime break with a 34-31 advantage.
Neither team led by more than five points in the second half with the lead exchanging hands eight times along with three ties.
Brittney Fair was one of five UWP players to finish the afternoon in double figures, coming off the bench and leading the way with 16 points while shooting a perfect six-for-six from the floor. The freshman additionally grabbed seven rebounds.
Gaby Bronson collected 12 points while Slivka and Endisch each chipped in 11 points.
Sierra West was the fifth Ranger in double figures, pouring on 10 points along with a game-high eight boards.
Emily Wendling led SVSU with a game-high 25 points. Carriere added 15 while Kristen Greene contributed 10.
The Rangers return to the court next Saturday, hosting Michigan Tech University at 1 p.m. inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
