Women's Basketball Prevails over Peacocks, 60-53

FAYETTE, Iowa. (Nov. 13, 2012)-- Never trailing, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team captured its second victory in as many tries, hitting the road and downing Upper Iowa University 60-53 on Tuesday night inside Dorman Gymnasium.

The Rangers (2-0) stormed out of the gates, dropping the contest's first five points and 22 of the first 26. UW-Parkside led by a game-high 20 points with 7:49 remaining in the first half before the Peacocks (1-1) fought back, mounting a 19-4 run to cut the Ranger lead to just five with 19 seconds remaining. UWP went into the intermission with a 32-26 lead.

A Jennifer Blunt layup with 12:28 remaining in the second half gave the Rangers a seven-point buffer before Upper Iowa rattled off eight of the next nine, pulling to within a point at 43-42 with just over 10 minutes to play and again at 45-44 with 7:56 to go. UW-Parkside answered the call by rolling off 10 straight to push the lead back to double digits with a Jenna Endisch trey capping off the run with 4:41 remaining. Upper Iowa fought back again, pulling to within a possession at 56-53 with 74 seconds left before the visitors iced the game with four straight free throws.

Endisch led alll scorers with 22 points, with 12 coming from beyond the arc. Jaleesa Trussell added eight boards while Sierra West dished out four assists along with six points.

Whitney Kieffer posted a doubel-double to lead the Peacocks, pouring in 21 points along with a game-high 13 boards while Carly Pagel chipped in 15 points.

Turnovers plagued both squads all night with a combined 55 with UWP accounting for 26 of those. The Ranger defense clamped down on the Peacocks in the second 20 minutes of play, allowing the home squad to hit just 25 percent (seven-for-28) of their shots while shooting just 32.7 percent (17-for-52) on the game while UWP enjoyed shooting 44.2 percent (19-for-43) from the floor.

The Rangers return to the court on Saturday, tipping off against Saginaw Valley State University at 1 p.m. (Eastern Time).
