Volleyball Downs Eagles in Regular Season Finale

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Nov. 10, 2012)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside extended its win streak to four on Saturday, closing out the regular season by blasting host University of Southern Indiana 3-1 (25-20, 26-24, 14-25, 25-22) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference volleyball match inside the Physical Activities Center.

The Screaming Eagles (16-15, 12-6 GLVC) held a 5-4 lead in the opening set before the Rangers (21-9, 10-8 GLVC) rattled off five straight points. UWP never trailed after that point securing the 25-20 win the the first set.

Set two was a tight affair with neither team holding a lead greater than three points. UWP led 16-13 but the tide turned with host USI scoring eight of the next 10, UW-Parkside responded eventually tying the contest at 24 before securing the 26-24 win, ending the set on a 7-1 run with Shannon Curtis collecting the decisive dig.

The Eagles scored the final six points to secure set three 25-14 before the Rangers finished off the match with a 25-22 win in set four.

Bridget Nickel posted a team-high 14 kills to lead the Rangers while Ryann Arundel and Brooke Schowalter each tallied nine. Chelsea Neave and Tricia Tirabassi both collected 23 assists while Sarah Mlachnik posted a team-best 21 digs.

USI's Lauren DeShaney posted a game-high 18 kills while Joras Bradbury tallied 43 assists and Kayla Heldman contributed 31 digs.

The Rangers return to the court on Friday, heading to Indianapolis, Ind. for the opening round of the 2012 GLVC Championship Tournament.
