SAINT LOUIS, Mo. (Oct. 7, 2012)-- Two second half goals was more than enough for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer team on Sunday, downing the host University of Missouri-Saint Louis, 2-0, in a Great Lakes Valley Conference clash at Don Dallas Field.
The two squads were scoreless at the halftime break with the host Tritons (6-5, 5-4 GLVC) holding a 6-3 edge in shots in a back in forth battle under soggy conditions.
Marc Glidden got the Rangers (5-6-1, 4-6 GLVC) on the board in the 57th minute, beating the goalkeeper off a feed from
Jon Gourlay. UMSL was reduced to 10-men in the 61st minute after getting issued a red card before UW-Parkside doubled its advantage in the 83rd minute with
Jorge Ontiveros tallying his team-leading fifth goal of the season off an assist from
Kinkade Lo. Lo rifled a shot that deflected to Ontiveros who buried the shot to ice the game.
Goalkeeper
Nick Huftalin posted his third shutout of the season, tallying four saves for the Rangers.
Atli Einarsson and
Andrew Krenzien posted solid defensive efforts as well with Einarsson making a diving save at the line to preserve the shutout with the Rangers holding a slim 1-0 edge.
UMSL's Patrick Ream suffered the loss, allowing a pair of goals and recording a pair of saves.
The Rangers return to the pitch on Friday, opening up a three-game homestand at Wood Road Field by taking on the University of Illinois-Springfield at 1:15 p.m.
