SOMERS, Wis. (Oct. 30, 2012)-- Falling on the wrong side of the final two sets of the night on Tuesday, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team suffered a 3-1 (25-20, 14-25, 25-21, 25-16) defeat to Lewis University in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
The visiting Flyers (19-9, 11-3 GLVC) utilized a 9-1 run to close out the opening set with a 25-20 victory before the Rangers (17-9, 6-8 GLVC) responded with a dominating second set, earning the 25-14 victory to even the contest. The score was tied at seven in set two before UW-Parkside closed the match by outscoring Lewis by a 18-7 margin. The visitors regrouped in set three, eking out a 25-21 win before closing the night with a 25-16 victory to secure the match. The Flyers held a precarious 11-9 lead before rattling off seven straight to build a comfortable nine-point margin en route to the win.
Bridget Nickel posted a game-high 20 kills for the Rangers while
Brooke Schowalter added 10.
Tricia Tirabassi accounted for 41 of the squad's 48 assists along with 17 digs while
Sarah Mlachnik led UWP with 30 digs.
Carly Perschnick led Lewis with 17 kills while Leigh Barea posted a game-high 46 assists. Amy Choi led the Flyers defensively with 32 digs.
The Rangers continue their homestand on Friday, welcoming Saint Joseph's College to DeSimone Gymnasium with first serve slated for 7 p.m.
