LEBANON, Ill. (Oct. 26, 2012)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team was out-muscled by host McKendree University 3-2 (28-30, 25-23, 25-17, 18-25, 16-14) on Friday evening in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match inside the Melvin Price Convocation Center, snapping he Rangers six-match win streak.
The Rangers (17-7, 6-6 GLVC) edged the Bearcats (12-13, 6-6 GLVC) 30-28 in a marathon opening set. UWP held a 24-18 lead before the hosts charged back with seven straight points. The team's traded jabs until a kill by
Bridget Nickel and a McKendree attack error, closed the set 30-28 in favor of the Rangers.
McKendree responded by capturing the next two sets, scoring the final five points in the second set to secure the 25-23 victory before rolling 25-17 in set three. UWP evened the series, prevailing 25-18 in the fourth set before the Bearcats sealed the match with a 16-14 fifth set win to seal the match.
Bridget Nickel paced UWP with 21 kills while
Meghan Conley added 14.
Tricia Tirabassi and
Chelsea Neave each amassed 25 assists while
Sarah Mlachnik tallied 22 digs.
The Rangers return to the court on Saturday, facing Bellarmine University at 2 p.m.
