SOMERS, Wis. (Oct. 21, 2012)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team registered its second undefeated weekend in as many weeks on Sunday, downing William Jewell College, 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-22) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at DeSimone Gymnasium.
The Rangers (17-6, 6-5 GLVC) have now won six straight matches and nine of their last 11. Little separated the two squads in the opening set, the visiting Cardinals (10-13, 4-7 GLVC) held a slim 18-16 advantage before UW-Parkside collected five straight points for the 21-18 edge. A
Meghan Conley kill ended the first set, giving UWP the 25-22 win. The second set was similar to the first with neither side pulling away until the Rangers ended the set by earning six of the final nine points to secure the 25-21 win.
UW-Parkside tallied the first four points of the third set and held an 18-9 advantage before Jewell began to claw back. The Cardinals scored eight of the next nine points, pulling within two at 19-17 before tying the contest at 22. The Rangers responded, recording the sets final three points to secure the 25-22 set win and match victory.
Bridget Nickel led the Rangers with a game-high 15 kills while collecting 11 digs on the defensive end.
Chelsea Neave tallied 21 assists while
Sarah Mlachnik accrued 13 digs to lead the team.
Kaylee Marquardt finished with 14 kills to lead the Cardinals while Cailynn Hayter tallied 27 assists and Kelsey Moffitt earned 13 digs.
UW-Parkside looks to continue its win streak on Friday, hitting the road to face McKendree University at 7 p.m. The Rangers defeated the Bearcats 3-1 earlier in the year on Sept. 29 inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
