RENSSELAER, Ind. (Oct. 21, 2012)-- Unable to overcome an early deficit, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside suffered a 2-1 setback to host Saint Joseph's College on Sunday in a Great Lakes Valley Conference men's soccer match at Minielli Memorial Field.
The host Pumas (5-11, 4-10 GLVC) opened the scoring in the third minute withe Mikey Maloney scoring a header goal off a corner kick with Shane McNalley earning the assist. St. Joe's doubled its advantage in the 16th minute with Torrey Brock floating the ball past the keeper from 25 yards out.
Jorge Ontiveros got the Rangers (6-9-1, 5-9 GLVC) on the board in the 42nd minute, scoring unassisted after uncorking a shot from the top of the box. The score was Ontivero's sixth goal of the season as the Pumas enjoyed a 2-1 lead at the halftime break, outshooting the visitors by a 7-5 margin. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second half.
UW-Parkside outgunned SJC by an 8-4 margin in the second half, including a 5-2 edge in shots on target. The Rangers concluded the contest with a 13-11 edge in shots.
Nick Huftalin recorded four saves in 90 minutes of work for UWP while Rylan Gentil logged five saves in goal for the Pumas.
The Rangers close out the season on Wednesday, hosting Lewis University at 1:15 p.m. inside Wood Road Field.
