AURORA, Ill. (Oct. 12, 2012)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team encountered little resistance on Friday afternoon against Tiffin University in the opening round of the fifth annual Mizuno GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Volleyball Tournament, downing the Dragons 3-0 (25-20, 25-10, 25-19) at the Great Lakes Center.
The Rangers (13-6) snagged seven of the final eight points in the opening set to emerge the 25-20 winners in a see-saw battle. UWP led 4-1 before finding itself in a 12-8 hole against the Dragons (5-11). The two sides traded jabs before UW-Parkside delivered the knockout with a 7-1 run that included three kills from
Kendyl Danelski.
The Rangers stormed out to a 10-1 lead in set two and built a comfortable 14-2 lead en route to the 25-10 set win before wrapping up the match in the third set with a 25-19 win.
Lauren Grady led the Rangers with 11 kills while
Brooke Schowalter and
Meghan Conley added nine and eight, respectively.
Tricia Tirabassi had a team-high 19 assists while
Sarah Mlachnik tallied a game-high 17 digs.
Chelsea Neave finished the match with 16 assists while collecting three of the team's seven service aces.
Danille McQuade led Tiffin with eight kills while Tiffany Buchinger amassed a match-high 25 kills with Jordan Jenkins adding 17 digs.
The Rangers return to the floor tomorrow morning at 10 a.m., taking on Malone University before closing out the day at 4 p.m. against Walsh University.
