The UW-Parkside men's basketball team fell at ninth-ranked Northern Kentucky, 87-60 on Thursday night. The Norse jumped out to a 29-14 lead midway through the first half and maintained the lead in improving to 14-2 overall and 6-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Rangers drop to .500 at 8-8 on the season.
The Rangers got 14 points from
Leneal Harris and 13 from
Jeremy Saffold.
Sam Katula joined those two in double figures with 11.
Chad Jackson led the Norse with 14 points on 7-for-8 from the floor.
Northern Kentucky showed why it's one of the top teams in Division II as they shot 59.3% from the floor. The Norse entered the game second in the country in field goal percentage.
The Rangers battled back from the early deficit to get within 11 on a three-point play by
Leneal Harris late in the first half.
After NKU opened up a 19-point lead early the second half the Rangers battled back again with an 11-4 run to get back within a dozen. Katula had a pair of lay-ups and Saffold added a three-point play to trim the deficit.
Unfortunately the Rangers could get no closer as NKU used its shooting prowess to stretch the lead the rest of the way.
The UW-Parkside offense was solid shooting 44.0% from the floor while committing just 12 turnovers. They were limited to 3-for-12 (25.0%) from the three-point line but did earn 23 trips to the free throw.
The Rangers will continue the road trip on Saturday as they head to Louisville, Ky. They will face second-ranked and defending national champion Bellarmine on Saturday afternoon. The tip-off is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. from Knights' Hall.
