Brittany Beyer and
Jadee Rooney combined for 41 points to help lead the Ranger women to an 83-63 victory over Lewis University on Monday night in Romeoville, Ill. The senior duo led Parkside to its highest scoring output of the season in moving to 12-3 on the year and 5-2 in the league prior to a big weekend trip to Kentucky.
Beyer finished with 21 points and a season-high eight rebounds. Rooney turned in another fine performance with 20 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
The Rangers also got a boost off the bench Monday night with 31 points coming from the subs.
Danielle Slivka led that group with ten while
Jaleesa Trussell and
Jenna Endisch each had seven.
Sierra West had six including five straight to end the first half and give Parkside a nine point lead at the break.
Things got off to a sloppy start with both teams struggling to protect the basketball. Beyer provided the offensive spark scoring 11 of the team's first 13 points to open up an early three point lead.
The Rangers went 6-for-10 from the three-point line in the first half to help offset an 18-8 Lewis advantage in the paint. Endisch's triple with 5:28 left pushed the lead up to nine. After a brief Flyer rally West stemmed the tide with a three of her own to get the lead to ten.
Lewis was able to trim the deficit down to five early in the second half but the Rangers steadily pulled away over the final 15 minutes. Rooney hit a three midway through the period to push the lead to 60-45. She did it again moments later after Trussell hit one as well and the Flyers didn't threaten the rest of the night.
Amy Selk's jumper with 2:30 left gave Parkside a 24-point cushion; the team's biggest lead of the night.
The Rangers finished the night shooting 44.0% from the floor including 47.6% (10-for-21) from three-point range. Parkside also got to the line 31 times matching a season high.
The victory sets up an important contest on Thursday when the Rangers travel to Northern Kentucky for a 4:30 p.m. central tip-off. They are tied with the Norse for second place in the GLVC Eastern Division, a game back of Indianapolis.
