The Rangers used a team effort to knock off the Hawks Saturday
Box Score

The UW-Parkside women's basketball team earned a hard fought Great Lakes Valley Conference victory, 53-50, against Quincy University on Saturday afternoon. Amy Selk's baseline jumper with just over a minute to go gave the Rangers a three point lead before the Hawks missed three, three-point attempts in the final minute to clinch the win.
The 23rd-ranked Rangers improved to 11-3 overall and 4-2 in the league. Quincy fell to 9-5 overall and is also 4-2 in the GLVC.

The Rangers limited Quincy to 1-for-16 from the three-point line on the day (6.3%). The Hawks entered the game in the nation's top ten in both makes and percentage from behind the arc.

Jadee Rooney led Parkside with 15 points and six rebounds. Brittany Beyer and Amy Selk joined her in double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively. Danielle Slivka gave the Rangers big minutes off the bench finishing with nine points and eight rebounds.

The high-powered Hawks jumped out to a 14-8 lead midway through the half on the strength of a 10-0 run. Karlee Gengenbacher had five points including a lay-up with 8:51 left to draw a time out from Coach Kenesie.

From there it was all Rangers for the remainder of the half. Parkside outscored Quincy 24-6 over those final nine minutes as Jadee Rooney took over scoring all 12 of her first half points including a stretch where she scored nine in just three minutes.

Danielle Slivka's slashing lay-up a few seconds before the horn gave Parkside its biggest lead of the game, 32-20, heading to the locker room.

The Rangers were able to push the lead to as many as 14 before Quincy stormed back. The Hawks scored 17 of the next 22 with Felisha Loggins capping the spurt with a basket a foul.

After Loggins missed the free throw, Parkside went on a 7-2 run to get back up by seven. Slivka drained a three with 8:33 left to make it 46-39.

Quincy scored the next five points capped by a Gengenbacher lay-up to get it back to two points. The teams scored just ten points in the final 6:45 as the defenses ratcheted up their intensity for the exciting finish.

Beyer's slashing lay-up with 3:21 to go but back-to-back baskets by Linsay Henke, who finished three blocks shy of a double-double, make it 51-50 with 2:30 remaining.

The score stayed that way until Selk's jumper from in front of the Ranger bench hit the front of the rim, off the backboard, and rolled in to push the lead back to three. From there Parkside was able to hang on for the victory against the team it met a year ago in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Gengenbacher led the Hawks with 16 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Henke had 14 points, 10 boards, and seven block shots. The Rangers held their leading scorer, Ali Schwagmeyer to just four points and forced her into seven turnovers.

Parkside has a quick turnaround with three road games in the next seven days. That string begins Monday with a trip to Lewis University. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. in Romeoville.
