The UW-Parkside women's soccer team got on the board in the eighth minute and never looked back in a 5-0 victory over Missouri-St. Louis, Friday at Wood Road Field. The Rangers took a 2-0 lead into the locker room and added three more goals in the second half in improving to 4-1-0 in GLVC play (and overall) this season. UMSL dropped to 2-2-0 and 3-3-0 overall.

"I thought we played one of our better games of the year," said head coach Troy Fabiano. "We created a lot of chances, created a lot of opportunities, but we've been stressing playing hard and we did that today."

The Rangers broke through just 7:58 into the match when Crystal Chalery finished off a great cross from Stephanie Barsuli with a header right in the center of the net. The play started with a long lead pass from Megan Owens near the midfield and Barsuli deftly touched it across for the score.

Parkside, while limiting the Tritons scoring opportunities added to their lead in the 32nd minute. Brynn Darga came up with a through ball over the top of the UMSL defense and Shannon Becker won the foot race to the ball. She got into a 1-on-1 with the keeper and popped it by her for the two goal lead.

As the game pressed on, the Rangers continued to wear down the Tritons. Becker got her second goal of the game, and third of the season, as she once again got a 1-on-1 with the goalie and popped it over her head. This time it was Natalie Brown with the lead pass over the top for a 3-0 lead.

Ten minutes later Chalery got her second goal as she deked the goalie and got herself an open net. Owens got credit with another assist as she pushed it over the defense to make it 4-0.

Three-and-a-half minutes later the Rangers completed the scoring on Stephanie Barsuli's fourth goal of the year. Becker's free kick from the far left wing traveled all the way through the box to a waiting Barsuli on the right post. She finished the play to make it 5-0.

Cassie Glodowski was credited with her fourth victory of the season as she held the Tritons scoreless on three saves for the first 79 minutes of play. Michelle Girard finished the rest of the match, adding a save, and preserving the shutout.

"I thought we played a complete game today," said Fabiano. "We did a very good job minimizing their chances and didn't let them get behind us."

For the match, Parkside controlled possession taking 20 shots to the Tritons nine.

The Rangers will wrap up the home weekend on Sunday with a GLVC-match against Maryville. Game time on Sunday will be at noon.
