Box Score
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer team allowed a last second goal in regulation and had to settle for a 1-1 tie at Illinois Springfield on Sunday. The Prairie Stars scored with 0:12 remaining in the second half and were able to force the tie. The Rangers return home 3-2-1 overall and 1-2-1 in GLVC play.
Parkside was able to get on the board early in the match to establish a lead for much of the day.
Tim Thao scored from five yards in front of the net on a pass from
Spencer Bursten to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead. The goal, which came 9:22 into the contest, was also the first shot of the day by either team.
They had another chance about 15 minutes later off a
Carlos Contreras corner kick. But
Jon Gourlay's header flew over the cross bar and the lead remained at one. The Rangers took that lead into the locker room while out-shooting the Prairie Stars 6-1.
Illinois Springfield got its offense going a bit in the second half but was still only able to put one shot on
Ryan Onwukwe until the final minutes when they were able to tie the game.
The Prairie Stars earned a corner kick with 0:23 to go for one final chance. Nikita Fadeev took the corner and laid it up to Jack Turnanchik who headed the ball in with 0:12 seconds to go and make it 1-1.
From there the Rangers took all the shots the rest of the match but couldn't put any on net. Onwukwe finished with two saves on the afternoon in earning the tie.
Parkside will now come home for two conference contests next weekend. The Rangers will host Missouri-St. Louis on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. before a 2:30 p.m. match against Maryville on Sunday afternoon.
