The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team improved to 3-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a thrilling five-set victory at Saint Joseph's College Friday night (22-25, 25-18, 25-23, 16-25, 19-17) . The Rangers got a match-high 32 digs from
Stacie Bower and had four players in double figures in kills.
“We were not at our best tonight but scrapped at the end and were able to outlast them,” said head coach
Christine Paciero. “I'm proud that we were about to squeak out a win against a team that had our number and was playing ridiculously good defense.”
Parkside played its third consecutive five-set match in GLVC play and won its second in a row following the triumph over 17
th-ranked Lewis University on Tuesday night. This time it was Saint Joe's who came back from a set down to force the deciding set but the Rangers held on for the win. Parkside fought off a couple of match points to secure the win.
Addie Kramer was once again very efficient offensively with 13 kills and a .344 hitting percentage.
Caroline Langer also had 13 kills while
Cassy Marx had 11.
Bridget Nickel rounded out the quartet of players with double digit kills as she had 10 to go with nine digs.
Courtney Stack and
Cayla Flood both recorded double-doubles with solid nights defensively. Stack had 24 assists and 11 digs on the night. Flood had 12 assists, 11 digs, and four service aces.
Bower continued her strong play defensively with the 32 digs. In the Rangers four wins this season she is averaging over 21 digs per match.
“Another great defensive effort from Stacie,” added Paciero.
The Rangers will wrap up the road trip with a visit to Indianapolis Saturday afternoon. The Greyhounds also improved to 3-1 in the league with a sweep of Lewis on Friday evening. The winner of Saturday's match will moved into a tie for second place in the Eastern Division.
