Somers, Wis.- The UW-Parkside Softball suffered two heartbreaking losses in a doubleheader to visiting Kentucky Wesleyan College. The Panthers claimed the opener, 10-5, in 10 innings and grabbed the nightcap, 5-3, in 12 innings. The losses drop the Rangers to 5-11 in the GLVC while KWC improved to 6-12.

Sunday was UW-Parkside's Senior Day as the program recognized five seniors capping their collegiate careers. Nicki Eckstrom, Christine Holthus, Krista Kelly, Meg McCormick, and Erin Schneider will all play their final home games at Parkside later this week.

Game One
The Rangers built a four-run lead in game one but the Panthers rallied to score the game's last nine runs to steal the win.

Parkside jumped out in front with three runs in the second inning. Ashley Sullivan doubled in Kristin Kleinmeyer to get things going. After a Lexi Sotiros walk, Holthus hammered a two-run double to center field to make it 3-0.

Each team scored a run in the third. Parkside got there's on a booming home run to left field by Kelly; her fifth of the season. The Rangers added another in the fifth on a Ekstrom double and appeared to be in control.

From there though the Panthers got their bats going and cashed in on their opportunities. Clarissa Smith knocked in two with a double in the sixth and KWC scored two more in the seventh to tie it. Traci Sanders base-hit to right field was misplayed allowing the tying run to score and force extra innings.

Both teams went quietly until the 10th when Kentucky Wesleyan scored five runs thanks in part to three Parkside errors. The Rangers loaded bases in the bottom of the 10th but were unable to push any runs across to mount a comeback.

Sullivan led the offensive attack in game one going 4-for-4 with two runs scored. Sotiros and Kelly each collected two hits.

Game Two
Parkside grabbed another early lead in the second game as Holthus doubled to start the game and scored two batters later on a single by Kirsten Luevano.

Kentucky Wesleyan answered immediately scoring two runs in the second to take the lead. They added another in the fourth to go up 3-1; a lead that stood until the bottom of the seventh inning.

Lani Grogan led off with a single and advanced to second when Schneider's ground ball was misplayed. Kyla Walczak came up next with a single to load the bases.

Another Kentucky Wesleyan error allowed two runs to score, tying the game and putting the winning run at third base. Ashlee Winstead come into the game in relief and retired the next three batters to end the treat.

Each team had an opportunity in the 11th inning, putting a runner in scoring position, but came up empty.

The Panthers finally seized command in the 12th, scoring two runs to go up 5-3. A nice defensive play in the bottom half helped seal the win and the sweep for KWC.

Grogan collected two of the Rangers nine hits in game two. Jill Vondrak went the distance allowing five runs (three earned) going all 12 innings in the circle.

Parkside will be back in action Monday when they take on the Knights of Bellarmine University in a GLVC-doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
