Game Two Box Score

Somers, Wis.- The UW-Parkside Softball team had its' opportunities late in game two but couldn't push the tying run across as the Rangers fell to 21st-ranked Lewis University, 2-1. The victory gave the Flyers a sweep after a 12-0 win in the opener. Lewis improved to 24-7 overall and 13-1 in the GLVC. The Rangers dropped to 5-9 in the league and 9-22 overall.

Game two was a battle throughout as Parkside's Kristin Kleinmeyer and Lewis' Karissa Habel were both on their game in the circle. Neither pitcher allowed many scoring chances for the opposition.

"Kristin Kleinmeyer pitched a heck of a game," said Head Coach Laura Fillipp. "She held them to six hits and really did a nice job."

Lewis finally broke through in the fourth inning on an RBI-double by Stephanie Harmon. The Rangers tied it up immediately when Christine Holthus hammered her seventh home run of the season in the bottom half of the inning.

Lewis finally manufactured the go-ahead run in the sixth thanks to some solid base running. With a runner on third Alyssa Moseley's check-swing comebacker scored Traci Freitag who got a great jump off third. Parkside had to take the out at first and concede the run.

The Rangers threatened in the next two innings but couldn't get the big hit. They loaded the bases with one out in the sixth but the inning ended with consecutive groundouts. They also got a runner to second with one out in the seventh but two strikeouts sandwiched around an intentional walk to Holthus ended the game.

Kleinmeyer took the loss allowing just two runs on six hits in the complete game effort. Holthus and Kirsten Luevano led the offense each collecting two hits.

"Defensivley we did a nice job," said Fillipp. "We had plenty of opportunities."

In game one the Flyers jumped out early and never looked back. They scored five times in the second and added crooked numbers for the next three innings to win it, 12-0. Diana Pickrum, the reigning GLVC Pitcher of the Week, tossed her fourth consecutive shutout limiting the Rangers to just four hits. Jill Vondrak took the loss for Parkside.

The Rangers will continue their eight-game homestand this weekend when Bellarmine and Kentucky Wesleyan come to campus. The Knights will be here Saturday at noon and KWC is scheduled for Sunday.
