St. Louis- The UW-Parkside Softball team had a rough day on Sunday, losing a doubleheader to the University of Missouri-St. Louis. The Tritons swept the Rangers, 11-1 and 8-0, to improve to 9-4 in the GLVC. Parkside dropped to 5-7 in the league and 9-21 overall.
The Rangers grabbed an early lead in the second inning of game one.
Meg McCormick led off the inning with a walk and eventually scored on two-out hit by
Ashley Sullivan. However, from that point on it was all Tritons.
UMSL tied the game in the second and then scored six runs in the third to take command. They added four more in the fourth inning and finished off the 11-1 victory.
Parkside did have six hits in game one led by a 2-for-2 game from
Lexi Sotiros.
Christine Holthus and McCormick both reached base twice in the game.
In game two the Rangers were unable to get their offense going as Stephanie Benson limited them to just two base hits.
Nicki Ekstrom led off the game with a hit and moved to second on a bunt by Holthus but was unable to score. They got a couple of base runners in the fourth, but again came up empty.
The game was scoreless until the third when the Tritons put five runs on the board, thanks in large part to a grand slam by JaCee Ellis. UMSL added three more runs in the fourth to help end the game due to the mercy rule.
Parkside will be back to start an eight-game home stand this week with Lewis coming to town on Wednesday. First pitch of that doubleheader will be at 3:00 p.m. They will then host Bellarmine and Kentucky Wesleyan next weekend at noon on Saturday and Sunday.
