Parkside Softball Drops Two in Florida

Wayne State Box Score

Tiffin Box Score

Kissimmee, Flo.- The UW-Parkside Softball team let a lead get away late on Tuesday, eventually losing two games in Florida. The Rangers fell to Wayne State (Mich.) 4-0 in the first game before an 11-3 defeat to Tiffin University (Ohio) in the afternoon affair. Both games were played at the Rebel Spring Games event in Kissimmee, Florida. The Rangers are now 3-5 on the trip which concludes tomorrow at 8:00 and 10:00 a.m.

In game one Parkside was limited to three hits and unable to get anything going on the offensive end. The Rangers were strong defensively but couldn't string a rally together to get back in the game.

"Defensively we played pretty well," said Head Coach Laura Fillipp. "But if you only play one facet well you're going to have a tough time."

In game two the Rangers led 3-2 heading into the fifth before Tiffin's offense exploded for six runs to take an 8-3 lead. Parkside committed three costly errors in the inning to contribute to the runs. The Dragons would add three more in the seventh to account for the final margin.

"I'm disappointed that we did come ready to compete today," said Fillipp. "The first three days (in Florida) we made real good strides and we were definitely heading in the right direction. Today we took a couple steps back."

Despite the losses the Rangers have seen some positive contributions throughout the lineup.

"We've definitely had some bright spots on this trip," said Fillipp. "Some of the upperclassmen have stepped up. We've also had a couple of freshman hit the ball real well."
