Kissimmee, Fla.- The UW-Parkside Softball team came back from a heartbreaking loss Sunday morning to capture an 8-0 victory over Stonehill College in six innings. The win puts the Rangers at 3-3 on their Florida trip and 3-7 overall. They dropped the first game Sunday to Wayne State University (Mich.) 4-3.

The Rangers got things going in the second on a Nicki Ekstrom double to make it 1-0. They would add five more in the fifth to all but put the game away. Freshman Kyla Walczak hit her first career home run, a two-run shot, to put Parkside up 3-0. Ashley Sullivan drove in the fourth run on a well-placed bunt. Later in the inning Kirsten Luevano and Meg McCormick added run-scoring singles to push the lead to six.

Parkside ended the game prematurely in the sixth on RBI-singles by Christine Holthus and Sullivan to make it 8-0 and invoke the mercy rule.

Jill Vondrak got the win tossing the six inning shutout allowing just four hits. Colleen Cummings recorded a team-best two hits with the other seven hitters in the lineup all adding a hit of their own.

Parkside lost the first game of the day 4-3, giving up three unearned runs in the fifth inning to allow Wayne State to steal the win.

The Rangers have an off day tomorrow in Florida before returning to the field Tuesday for a rematch with Wayne State.
